XX7: The Dissatisfying Ending [Video - Accidental]

[The communicator switches on from the vantage of someone's belt. It has a view of a white jacket, interspersed with glimpses of someone's dark tabard and white apartment walls.

The first voice is weary but light in tone.]
I can't believe we sailed that far just to end up where we started... [Luke sighs heavily and drops his luggage to the floor.] Florian! We're back! ... Huh. Maybe he's at the restaurant.

Yeah. [He says it all quick and terse, and then there's a loud thud as Asch dumps his packs on the floor as well. Then, there are the shuffling sounds of unpacking as he silently fumes. It's a short while before he finally speaks again.] After going through all that… here we are again.

I can't believe it.
[His voice is filled with bitterness.]

Asch... [Luke stands there with his backpack in his hands, feeling incredibly useless. This is not a new thing for him. His fingers tighten, and then he tries to summon up some optimism.] ... I'm sorry. But we have an idea of what's out there now, and we all made it back in one piece. It could have been a lot worse.

I know that! [Asch snaps as he rises to his feet.] You easily could've died for absolutely no good reason. The party would've been left without the leader who coordinated this, and then we still wouldn't have found a way back home!

[Luke faces his original, frowning in return. Haha, it probably sounds like Luke is arguing with himself.] So we didn't find a way home. What's important is that we know that we can escape. If something really bad happened to the City, we wouldn't have to be trapped here along with it. It doesn't have to end here... and neither do we.

Escape to where!? We sailed across an ocean and found 'land' that was actually someplace back in the City! How is that an escape!?

[Suddenly, the device slides from its holster and crashes to the floor. This is when Asch kneels to check it and discovers it posting.]

Dammit!

Yeah. The replica took a small party, and I went along, too. It was fine. Some things were dangerous. A lot of stupid things happened, but we came out alright. Everyone's okay.

[And there is a very visible and audible sigh of relief.]

Oh, that's good to hear everyone made it back safely.

[A beat.]

The 'replica'?

...Don't tell me you don't know what that word means.

Replica - "a copy or reproduction that is relatively indistinguishable from the original."

[She knows what it means. And no, she wasn't at all meant to be mocking. He asked her first...]

[identity profile] stupidgenes.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
[No one's ever really asked him who he's referring to when he says that, so he doesn't know why she's asking.]

Exactly. That idiot came up with the idea in the first place.

The idea of making a replica?

[He's lost her...]

video;

[identity profile] stupidgenes.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
No. The replica had the idea to go on this expedition in the first place!

What is this 'replica' you are speaking of?

video;

[identity profile] stupidgenes.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...Isn't it obvious!? He looks and sounds just like me!
firstaid: (trust)

[personal profile] firstaid 2011-09-28 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't that be your 'twin', then? Though I haven't seen anyone that looks and sounds like you...

Are you stupid!?

[No, Asch. You're stupid.]

[;.; But she really hasn't seen anyone like him!!!!]

I apologize if this is supposed to be some common knowledge. I arrived just recently and I am well aware that I have been here before. However, I do not remember anyone.

Again, I apologize, especially if this has caused you some sort of inconvenience.

[SHE FEELS BAD, OKAY?!]

[He feels kinda bad now... even if it's hard to tell.]

...Fine. You just replied to this video, where the replica and I were talking. He's the one with short hair.
firstaid: (Curious)

[personal profile] firstaid 2011-09-28 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, she gets it now! So the one with short hair is his replica? But...]

Why do you call him a 'replica'? He's certainly not a copy of you, right?

[Maybe it's all in good fun. Maybe it's a term of endearment (even if it is a mean sounding one... Maybe it's really the truth...]

video;

[identity profile] stupidgenes.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[He feels so insulted that he's not even sure how to respond.]

...Are you serious?
firstaid: (concerned)

video;

[personal profile] firstaid 2011-09-29 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[She hit a nerve and she knows it. Okay...she's curious, but now she's afraid to probe deeper into this...]

I...honestly don't know anything about you two, so...

[She pouts for a moment, shooting the camera an apologetic look.]

Would you mind explaining to me both of your situations, then this misunderstanding can be cleared up?

[Well, she's assuming there's something she's gravely misunderstanding.]

Never mind. There's nothing more to explain.

[Oh, there he goes again. Clamming up like he does. /sigh]

What matters is that we're all back from the expedition.

I do suppose that everyone's safe return is the most important matter. And I am happy and relieved that everyone has returned safely.

[But now she's curious about this replica thing. Alas, she will ask someone else!]
